Climbing gardens in the Ötztal

Without a doubt, this is the type of climbing that is booming the most! Some even claim it is the number 1 trend sport in the valley. In total, you can find well over 10 climbing gardens in the Ötztal and thus a variety and huge choice is guaranteed. The most famous are certainly the Tumpen climbing garden Engelswand, climbing garden Oberried, climbing garden Niederthai Ötztal and the climbing garden Nösslach Längenfeld. Experience the thrill up close and get in touch with nature!
Suitable for families and beginners
The climbing garden Oberried is a true climbing paradise, especially for families and beginners. The cozy picnic corner makes the breaks a real treat and everyone gets their money's worth. The parking lot is a bit difficult to find, but due to the precise signposting even this should not be a problem. The climbing garden is located in the hamlet of Oberried on the west side of the Ötztal. This means that the first rays of sunshine already come through in the early morning hours.

As already mentioned: Oberried is the number one family destination for climbing. This is clearly underlined with over 100 climbing routes up to the 8th degree of difficulty.

Arrival / Access:
From the A12 exit Ötztal direction Längenfeld, at the hamlet Au turn right and follow the road to Oberried. On the right side south of Oberried is the parking lot to the climbing garden.

easy to difficult routes
The Engelswand towers darkly and impressively into the air.
Coming into the valley, the climbing garden is located on the left side of the valley. Following a sign, you will reach the parking lot. Please do not drive up to the wall by car. From the parking lot it is a 10 minute walk to the green meadow in front of the Engelswand.
Ideal also for families since no car traffic could endanger the children's play. A new playground has just been installed.

You can choose from about 60 routes in the priority 6th to 8th degree of difficulty. Between 15 and 30 meters long, up to 4 pitches. For children and beginners there is a wall area with very well secured routes in the lower degree of difficulty.

From the A12 exit Ötztal direction Umhausen to Tumpen, there after the end of the village sign turn left to the parking lot.

the insider tip
The climbing garden is certainly the insider's tip among climbers. Away from any traffic and noise, the climbing garden is hidden in Au near Längenfeld. Due to the newly created sectors, the climbing garden has become a highlight in the Ötztal. The climbing garden is peppered with countless roofs and is therefore recommended even in not so nice weather.
The routes:
Nösslach can show off especially with routes in the 7th degree of difficulty with exciting roof climbing. With the Strada del Sole and many other multi-pitch routes you can reach dizzying heights up to 200 meters above the valley basin.

Arrival / Access:
Coming from Umhausen, turn left directly at kilometer 18.8 to the small chapel. Parking is possible directly at the chapel.
Approach to the wall: Follow the forest road to the barrier and turn right at the barrier. After 5 minutes you reach sector A. The second sector is 2 minutes to the right of the access.

the climbing mecca among the pros
The Niederthai climbing garden is the climbing mecca in Tyrol among professionals.
Due to the very steep, mostly overhanging boulders, everything is demanded of every climber, starting with mature technique and ending with maximum strength. The boulders are scattered across the forest next to the path to the Wiesle-Alm.
The routes:
The tours start at the 6th degree of difficulty and go up to the 11th degree of difficulty, where then probably everyone is challenged. The overhanging rocks make climbers' hearts beat faster and offer the opportunity to prove one's skills even in bad weather.

Coming from the A12, you drive into the Ötztal valley in the direction of Umhausen. There you turn left and continue towards Niederthai. After 10 minutes of driving uphill, you will come to the parking lot right next to the road in a left-hand bend.

Take the hiking trail towards Wiesle; about 15 minutes to the first rock.
