Oetz in summer
The village of Oetz is the center of the front Ötztal. Beautifully situated, surrounded by lush meadows and forests and also a traffic junction - the road to Kühtai and Ochsengarten branches off the main road here. Oetz is situated in a valley widening between two landslides and has a wonderfully mild climate due to its basin location at the foot of the 3,008 m high Acherkogel (the northernmost three-thousand-meter peak in the Alps).
The Ötztaler Ache, one of the most famous European waters for water sports, flows through the main town - as a result, Oetz is also often the venue for kayak championships. Many rafting and canyoning companies offer outdoor experiences for everyone.
A colorful townscape is offered to the visitor: cafés, restaurants and stores, a wide variety of accommodation options and a beautiful old village center on a slope with historic inns worth seeing, some of which have surprisingly well preserved facade paintings (Gasthof Stern).
Culture and nostalgia in Oetz in the Ötztal valley
The "Tower Museum", received the Museum Award of the Province of Tyrol in 2005. Above the village towers the late Gothic-Baroque parish church, from where you have an impressive view of the surrounding mountains. The village is a two-season tourist resort with the (skiing and hiking) region of Hochoetz. Tourism forms the most important branch of the economy.
The "Merano of North Tyrol" at 813 m above sea level spreads its southern charm around every corner. Thanks to the mild climate, the hustle and bustle in the street cafés continues into the fall. The old village center presents itself authentically and traditionally - the magnificent parish church, painted houses from the 16th century and the gallery museum in the old tower set cultural accents.
Hikes, mountain and mountain bike tours become impressive experiences with expert guidance. Those looking for the ultimate kick will find it rafting on the "Ötztaler Ache", canyoning in the "Auer Klamm" or tandem paragliding. At Lake Piburg, one of the warmest bathing lakes in Tyrol, nature presents itself from its most beautiful side. A romantic boat trip, a jump into the refreshing water or simply sit on the shore and watch the fish! In the adventure pool Oetz, the giant slide and water mushroom invite you to lots of summer fun. No wonder Oetz has so many regular guests.
Winter in Oetz
The Hochoetz ski center (2,200 m) can be reached from the outskirts of the village with the 8-seater gondola lift, but also with a 4-seater gondola lift from Ochsengarten. 2 gondola lifts, four chairlifts and 4 T-bar lifts and more than 20 kilometers of slopes round off the family ski area. A huge selection of accommodations in all price ranges and the diverse gastronomic scene complete the offer.
Lake Piburg in Oetz in the Ötztal valley
Winter romantics will feel at home at Lake Piburg - frozen over, it's a paradise for ice skaters and ice shooters. The hiking trails to and around the natural jewel can hardly be surpassed in beauty. The illuminated toboggan run to the lake is open until 11 pm.
Lifting in Kühtai and fun on the slopes in Hochoetz, this is the new ski region Küthai-Hochoetz. 78 kilometers of slopes and 23 state-of-the-art lifts and cable cars, with every multi-day ski pass (from 2 days). Plus free bus transfer every half hour (8km) between Hochoetz (Ochsengarten) and Küthai.
